UnlockTool download & install guide

Get a clean install on the first attempt — and avoid the two mistakes that account for most support tickets.

Download only from the official server

This is not a formality. Repacked, “cracked” and mirrored UnlockTool builds cannot authenticate against the license server, so they either fail at login or fail mid-operation — and a flash that fails mid-write is how devices get bricked. Many of these builds also ship with credential stealers.

Before you extract: antivirus

Low-level USB and driver access looks exactly like malware behaviour to a heuristic scanner, so false positives are normal. Add your intended install folder to your antivirus exclusion list before extracting, otherwise loader files get quarantined and the tool fails with vague errors later.

Install

  1. Extract to a short path such as C:\UnlockTool — deep nested folders with spaces cause avoidable problems.
  2. Right-click the executable and choose Run as administrator. Do this every time, not just at install.
  3. Allow the tool through Windows Firewall on first launch — it needs to reach the license server.

Drivers — the real cause of "device not detected"

Install these before connecting any handset:

  • USB / ADB drivers for general detection
  • VCOM / preloader drivers for MediaTek devices
  • Qualcomm 9008 (EDL) drivers for Qualcomm workflows

Then: use a rear USB 2.0 port directly on the motherboard, not a front panel or a hub. Use a known-good data cable — charge-only cables enumerate as nothing. If detection still fails, check Device Manager while plugging the phone in and watch which entry appears.

Sign in with the UnlockTool.net account your license was activated on. If login is rejected: confirm the license is active, confirm you are on the newest build, and confirm you did not install a repacked version. Those three cover nearly every case.

Keep it updated

The tool usually self-updates at launch. Let it. New loaders arrive constantly and running an old build against new firmware is the single most common cause of failed operations. The update log lists what each release added.

Quick troubleshooting

  • Files disappear after extracting — antivirus quarantined them. Add the exclusion, re-extract.
  • "Server connection failed" — firewall or proxy blocking the tool. Allow it explicitly.
  • Login rejected — no active license, wrong account, or a non-official build.
  • Device not detected — drivers, cable, or port. In that order.
  • Operation fails mid-way — update to the newest build before retrying.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the UnlockTool download free?

The setup file is free. Running operations requires an active account license — see the pricing page.

Why did my antivirus delete files after extraction?

A heuristic false positive on the loader components. Add the install folder to your exclusions and extract again.

Can I run UnlockTool in a virtual machine?

It is not recommended. USB passthrough in VMs is unreliable and a dropped connection mid-flash can brick a device.

Does it work on macOS or Linux?

No. UnlockTool is Windows-only software.
